Listening Ear, Merseyside
Listening Ear (Merseyside) is a community-based charity providing a free, confidential, reflective listening,
counselling and bereavement support service.
When Listening Ear (Merseyside) embarked on its community services expansion plan, it proved essential to
upgrade some rooms to give greater client confidentiality.
Floorscan Acoustics was asked to appraise the sound insulation of two Counselling rooms that were not
providing suitable levels of speech privacy. We were able to identify the key sound insulation weaknesses and
transmission paths:
-
Directly through the doors
- Directly through the partitions (and electrical sockets)
- Indirectly through holes in the partitions at high level within the ceiling void
Using Health Technical Memorandum HTM 08-10 document for an appropriate benchmark to speech privacy,
we were able to make recommendations, and subsequently carried out the following:
-
Upgrade the room-side of partitions, including at high level
- Provide temporary upgrading of the existing doorsets, then
- Replace doorsets with fully Disabled Access Compliant specialist acoustic doorsets
Lien Cheung, Business Service Manager for Listening Ear, says:
“Floorscan clearly understood the concerns and what was needed to put things right. The detail given in your
proposal for upgrading gave us confidence that you could provide the improvement we needed and within our
restricted budget and time scale. The advice and recommendations were invaluable, the workmanship and finish
were highly commended by everyone. Listening Ear is absolutely delighted with the outcome.”
